Abstract

A tsunami is a series of ocean waves capable of propagating at high speeds, primarily triggered by submarine earthquakes. In 1994, a tsunami struck the southern coast of Tulungagung Regency, causing severe damage across several coastal villages. The objective of this study is to analyze the vulnerability level of coastal villages in Tulungagung to tsunami hazards. The indicators utilized in this analysis encompass land slope, elevation, land use, distance of settlements from the coastline, and distance from rivers. The analysis was conducted using a scoring method to classify vulnerability levels into five categories: very low, low, moderate, high, and very high. Furthermore, spatial mapping was performed using ArcGIS. The results indicate that the vulnerability levels of the coastal villages in Tulungagung fall into the moderate and high classifications. The villages categorized under the high vulnerability classification include Basole, Kalibatur, Keboireng, Besuki, and Kalidawe. Meanwhile, the villages with moderate vulnerability comprise Jalu_ngharjo, Ngrejo, Rejosari, Panggungkalak, and Pucanglaban. These findings, which range from moderate to high vulnerability levels, indicate that community preparedness and mitigation efforts are urgently required to minimize disaster risks.
